Inspiration

Yesterday at the lecture, Ms. Akuntundey spoked briefly on how we should take things serious and that we just have to believe. The example she gave about herself and what happend to her spoke to me beingh that I went through the same thing. The part of the lecture where she told us to point at ourself and say "I got this" was a small statatement but very meaningful nonetheless. Here is a song by a well known artist that really stood out to me, its kind of old but its still a good song that mainly focuses on believing in yourself and knowing you can achieve whatever you want to. I want to hear your thoughts on this song and if if speaks to you the way it speaks to me and what the conversation was about..

  1. I think it goes great with the ending of the lecture. Mrs.Akuntundey made as stand up and say to ourselves "I got this" and I believe that's half the battle. No one makes us get up in the morning and come to bridge. No one is making us even go to college. Were here because we want to be a get the privellege to. The song also talked distractions like going to clubs, drinking, etc. I think this shows that in order to succeed we all really need to want to and not get distracted from the big picture by petty things.

  2. Im remember when this song first came out,I was in private school. It was the only song that we where allowed to play in class. Because teachers always stereotyped rap music as Disgracing woman, drug & anything negative. But when this song came out, we played it in class for adleast 3 months because of the popsitive message in the song. This post brings back great memories of my childhood school years.

  3. Well done on posting this! It did speak to me as well. Though I'm not a fan of Nas I can understand why its an inspiration. Children, Adults, or anyone can do anything if they put their minds to it. What I can't understand is why isn't there more songs like this on television. Music holds powerful meaning and they are a big part of our society today which means a bigger influence and effect.

  4. I feel like what the speak had said is the same message the music video is trying to put out. We knew we all can be what we want to be. That is why we are going to college, is it not? we are here to be what we want to be. and in order to be successful we have to believe in ourselves that "we got this," like the speaker said. Nas is trying to say that it we want it bad enough we can be that; and that is exactly what the speaker was saying on Wednesday. she told us to point at ourselves and say "i got this." and that we could make it if we wanted to and did our best.

  5. The lecture was a very great one. she spoke on marketing. Her focus was about, having faith in yourself. I like that you had chose this video. I dont know if you realized this or not but Nas he rapped about the same general things that Ms Akootundae spoke about. Basically society changes into believing differently. So her as well as Nas tried to influence us not to get caught up with trying to do things for others, but do them for you. Believe in yourself!!

  6. the song inspires me, it really does. with so much negetivity in the world and so many people looking down on you, its hard to actually become something. nas really made me think that i can do whatever i want to do and be happy. all i have to do is reach my goals and i can make it. i listen to nas because he has made it! he is rich and famous so i will try to listen to how he got there.

  8. You have to tell yourself you are going to do what I takes to make your life different. Know that you can make I change in life. I start from you and from there you may be able to change the world.

  10. I was really curious about how you all felt about the "I've got this" speech. Do you think everyone in the United States has a chance to succeed? Or are some people, no matter how hard they try, destined to failure. This is especially important in the bridge program where if you pass and get into college, failure results in thousands of dollars in debt that will be very difficult to pay back. Also, if you default on your loans, you won't be able to get any support from the government like unemployment or food stamps. It is very difficult for me to think about when I consider the students I wasn't able to pass.
